Game Summary
Subversive Memories is a story-driven survival horror set within the shadow of Brazil’s military dictatorship, blending historical themes with classic genre design. Players follow Renata as she explores an abandoned research facility in search of answers, uncovering disturbing truths along the way.
Structurally, the game takes clear inspiration from Resident Evil, using a hub-and-spoke layout filled with locked doors, shortcuts, and interconnected spaces. Exploration is key, with maze-like environments that demand careful navigation and frequent backtracking. An excellent map system helps track progress, but the game offers no hand-holding—players must rely on observation and memory to advance.
Combat is minimal and tense, with a dual-drive flashlight used to fend off threats, echoing mechanics seen in Heartworm. Encounters are sparse and often encouraging escape over confrontation, reinforcing vulnerability and resource management.
Puzzles are deliberately challenging, requiring attention to environmental clues such as notes and collectibles. Combined with multiple endings and a focus on exploration, Subversive Memories delivers a focused, old-school survival horror experience that rewards patience and curiosity.
