Game Summary
Geisters, a 1998 South Korean survival horror game developed by Quasar, remains one of the genre’s most obscure and enigmatic titles. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity has fled underground and into space following an asteroid collision, the game follows Sergeant Sole as he returns to a ravaged Earth for an exploration mission.
Blending survival horror with adventure elements, Geisters featured pre-rendered backgrounds with pseudo-3D character models, reminiscent of Resident Evil. However, unlike traditional survival horror, combat was limited and only permitted when dictated by the story, placing a stronger emphasis on dialogue and puzzle-solving. The game’s dark, oppressive atmosphere and alien threats contributed to its unique take on the genre, though its inaccessibility—being released only in Korea and featuring exclusively Korean dialogue—left it largely forgotten.
Despite its obscurity, Geisters stands as a rare sci-fi entry in early survival horror, showcasing how the genre evolved beyond traditional haunted mansions and into the depths of space and post-apocalyptic ruin.
