Game Summary

Babysitter Bloodbath is a 2013 survival horror game by indie developer Puppet Combo and is an early and influential title in their line-up of retro-inspired horror experiences.

Set in a quiet suburb of Monroe, Washington, the game places the player in the shoes of Sarah, a teenage babysitter on her first night looking after a young boy called Billy. What begins as a routine babysitting job quickly descends into terror when Neokalus Burr, a psychotic escapee from a nearby mental hospital, breaks into the house intent on murder.

The title draws heavy inspiration from classic 1980s slasher films and early survival horror games. This influence is clear in its VHS-era aesthetic, low-poly graphics and deliberate homage to the gameplay style of vintage PlayStation horror titles.

Gameplay
Babysitter Bloodbath blends exploration and survival with a tense cat-and-mouse dynamic. The player must navigate a suburban home, searching for items and survival tools while avoiding or confronting the relentless killer. Fixed and sometimes awkward camera angles, together with clunky controls reminiscent of classic survival horror, heighten the atmosphere of vulnerability and dread.

Unlike many modern horror games, resources are scarce, and encounters with the killer are brief but terrifying, underscoring the tension of every decision. The experience is relatively short compared to later Puppet Combo titles, but its tight pacing and persistent sense of danger leave a lasting impression on players.

Place Within Puppet Combo's Catalogue
Babysitter Bloodbath occupies a foundational place in Puppet Combo's body of work. It was one of the earliest releases under the Puppet Combo name (originally released as Halloween before being retitled) and helped establish the developer's signature blend of retro visuals and slasher horror.

The game's influence can be seen in later projects such as Murder House, which is widely regarded as its spiritual successor and expands on many of the same survival horror mechanics with more refined design and broader scope.

Across Puppet Combo's catalogue, Babysitter Bloodbath stands as a cult classic that helped define the studio's niche: gritty, atmospheric horror that pays homage to both the films and video games that shaped the genre.
