A.I.L.A Review – Meta First Person Horror From Pulsatrix Studios
Disclaimer: I received a free review key for A.I.L.A from the publisher. All thoughts are my own.
A.I.L.A is not your typical horror game. You play as Samuel, a beta tester trapped inside a surreal VR world where each scenario throws you into a completely different location, tone, and even time period. From a haunted apartment reminiscent of Silent Hill 4: The Room to a derelict farmhouse straight out of Resident Evil 7, this game constantly shifts in unexpected ways keeping you guessing about what’s behind the next door.
In this review, I cover:
A.I.L.A’s unique blend of horror subgenres
The meta narrative and shifting environments
Exploration and puzzle-solving reminiscent of classic survival horror
How the game reimagines the iconic “door loading screens” from early Resident Evil
Enemy variety, including the weaker early alien encounters
Impressively detailed graphics and diverse visual styles
Why I ultimately couldn’t put the game down
Whether A.I.L.A is worth playing in 2025
